Reporter, Calgary Herald, September 2013- present

  • I covered crime, breaking news and everything in between as a general assignment reporter from 2013 to 2016.  I transitioned to the civic affairs beat in June 2016.
  • My contribution to team coverage of the murder of a young father and the disappearance of his two-year-old daughter in Blairmore in the fall of 2015 helped earn the Calgary Herald a National Newspaper Award nomination in the Breaking News category.

Freelance journalist, April 2011-September 2013

  • I pitched stories and wrote articles for publications across Western Canada including Alberta Venture, Alberta Oil, Avenue Edmonton, City Palate, Kootenay Mountain Culture Magazine, West Magazine, Westworld Magazine, Oilsands Review and various trade publications.

Reporter/photographer, Metro Edmonton, October 2012- September 2013

  • Covered crime, education and quirk in a fast-paced three person newsroom. Stories and photos regularly appeared in Metro newspapers across the country and were often followed by competing media outlets.
  • Responsibilities included generating story ideas, writing and photographing three+ stories per day, live-tweeting from assignments, posting content to web, writing SEO friendly headlines, working in a web-first newsroom,  participating in daily front page meetings and editing.

  • Offered feedback on completed chapters, researched and wrote sidebars, and brainstormed content with the authors for this book on the university experience, published in 2011.
